A lot of people think they know how to install sod, but in reality, they may have done it wrong in the past. This article helps to teach people how to install sod correctly. The most important thing you can do when you install sod is to start with a good foundation. Make sure that your dirt is entirely graded and level before rolling the sod on. Also make sure that you are using good topsoil. For new sod lawn installation, you need a least 4 to 6 inches of topsoil. This will help you out in the long run, because it will help keep your grass healthy and give you a thicker turf. In addition, it is also a good idea to add some starter fertilizer to your sod once you roll it on. This will help it to get established faster and it will help the roots to grow in.

The way that sod is cut, is that when it is taken up, it destroys about two thirds of the root system. You need to make sure to keep your lawn watered daily, until the root systems grow back. Until this happens, your lawn is vulnerable to dry out and die if it doesn’t get watered. A lot of times, you’ll even need to water two or three times a day in the beginning.

The next thing you should know about sod installation, is that it is very important for you to make sure that the sod comes into contact with the soil. After laying down the new sod, go over your lawn with a light soil roller so that you can make sure that it is completely even, and that all of the new sod comes into contact with the soil.  This way, you can ensure that the lawn will come in and be healthy.
